October 23, 1936: "U.S. Forest Service Lookout Hutchinson, the "Wondering Spirit of Estella Peak", was host to about twenty Scouts who held their exercises within the tower of the lookout itself, while their signal flare threw out from the base of the building, its message of "Peace on Earth; Good Will to all Men". The gentle spirit of Frank Miller seemed to gather close and instill in all the feeling and desire for the Peace that, in life, was lived and preached by that great man.
As a fitting climax, and drawing a comparison between ancient and modern means of communication, two members of Ranger A.M. Longacre's staff at Corona, demonstrated and explained an S.P.F. radio set to the interested and curious members of the party. Messages from the "Witch Creek Fire", which was burning dangerously close to the Cleveland National Forest at the time, were listened to, and a great interest in the Forest Service and its ideals, and Fire Prevention in particular, was born in the minds of those present. -McClure, Trabuco Dist. November 20, 1936: "The "Wandering Spirit of Estelle Peak" on the Trabuco District of the Cleveland is just as good at night as in the day time. He seems to do most of his wandering in the darkness. He spotted a fire eight miles away, indirect visibility after 7 PM one night and sent a crew to a bonfire on the exact spot called by the Wanderer. This same Spirit was troubled - this was in the daytime - by a large white cloud which suddenly rolled out of the orange groves south of the town of Corona, ten miles away. Like his own spirit the cloud wandered back and forth. In time it was discovered that a machine was dusting the groves for scale and insects. He added this to his list of possible false alarms.
